How much can a fleet save with retreads? Let's do the math

For hauliers and fleet operators, tyres are the second-biggest running cost after fuel. So the question comes up a lot: how much do retreads actually save?

Start with the cost per tyre. A retreaded tyre typically costs only 30-50% of a comparable new one, while delivering mileage close to new. That means on the same long-haul run, your tyre cost per kilometre drops by nearly half.

Then consider casing reuse. A sound TBR truck casing - no hidden damage, cords intact - can usually be retreaded 1-3 times. Spread the total mileage across one casing and you get one investment used several times over, pushing the overall cost down further.

The bigger the fleet, the more obvious the maths: multiply the saving per tyre across dozens or hundreds of tyres and it becomes a real annual saving. That is exactly why retread usage among commercial vehicles stays high in mature overseas markets.
