How to choose a tyre buffing machine: manual vs standard vs CNC
Buffing is the first key step of tire retreading. How precisely a tyre buffing (grinding) machine cuts the bonding radius directly decides whether the new tread bonds well and how many miles the retread will run. Three types are common — manual, standard and CNC. Which one fits you?
Manual: simple, low-cost and easy to learn. Good for smaller shops with modest output, mainly on TBR truck tyres, where the operator controls the radius by experience.
Standard: adds guiding and adjustment mechanisms for a more stable, consistent radius. This is the workhorse for most retreading plants.
CNC: the buffing path is program-controlled for the highest precision and consistency, with the least dependence on operator skill. Best for high-volume lines, high yield requirements, or high-value tyres such as OTR.
Rule of thumb: consider your output, your tyre types and how much consistency you need. The higher the volume, the more valuable the tyre, and the more stability you want, the more a CNC buffer pays off. YTON offers all three, with optional dust extraction to keep the workshop clean.
